Eco friendly nappies are nappies that aim to minimise their impact on the environment through the materials used and/or production processes applied. This includes reusable (cloth) nappies, but the term generally refers to disposable nappies that are sustainably made. At Kit and Kin, we create our eco nappies in a carbon neutral factory with sustainable and plant-derived materials. This includes the absorbent core of our nappy, which contains totally chlorine-free, FSC® certified wood pulp from sustainably managed forests. We are also the only nappy brand that protects our precious rainforest for the next generation.

Traditional non-eco nappies are mostly made from plastic, a non-renewable material made from oil. These can take up to 500 years to break down in landfill. We choose renewable, plant-based alternatives that are more mindful of our planet, and help to protect our future - and they’re a huge step up from traditional nappies when it comes to decomposition.

Right now, the only parts of our nappies that aren’t biodegradable are the velcro tabs and the stretchy leg cuffs (we’re on the lookout for better alternatives as new materials become available!).

Kit & Kin nappies are made with sustainable materials, so in order for them to break down as quickly as possible we would recommend following these simple steps:

• Make sure the used nappy is placed inside a biodegradable nappy sack which will allow for oxygen to permeate
• When disposing of the sack in the bin, if possible place it outside of the non-biodegradable bin liner (but still within the bin itself) as this will maximise the exposure to oxygen
